Detroit Jews for justice Co-Founder
Rabbi Alana Alpert is the co-founder of Detroit Jews for Justice (DJJ), which organizes Jewish community to engage in local movements for racial and economic. DJJ has mobilized hundreds to take action for regional transit, access to water, sick-time for workers, and strong public education. DJJ draws deeply on Jewish culture, history and tradition to build a thriving intergenerational community able to make meaningful contributions towards systemic change. Rabbi Alpert received ordination from Hebrew College in Boston in 2014 and currently serves Congregation T’chiyah, a Reconstructionist congregation spanning Metro Detroit. She graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Community Studies and has worked as an organizer at NY Jobs with Justice and Jews for Racial & Economic Justice and as an educator at Harvard Hillel. R. Alpert is a graduate of the Clergy Leadership Incubator, Kenissa, Detroit Equity Action Lab, and AVODAH, on whose Rabbinic Cabinet she sits. She is passionate about the intersection of spiritual practice and social change.
