Is it a good thing when U.S. Presidents talk about us?  When President Trump has talked to or about American Jews recently, it has caused a bit of an uproar. Some in the Jewish community focus on his support of Israel; others point to anti-Semitic tropes in his rhetoric.  The way that recent American presidents have addressed Jewish audiences in recent decades offers great insight into how Jews fit into their world views and their essential understandings of the United States. Let's look at how Presidents George W. Bush, Obama, and Trump have talked to and about Jews and what their words have to teach us about both America and American Jews.
