The complex history of Jewish women during the Holocaust consists of more than being victims of history's greatest evil--it also includes examples of history's greatest heroism. Until recently, true stories of women who defied the Nazis were largely unheard. An essential part of honoring Holocaust victims and survivors--as well as 2Gs, 3Gs, and onward--is becoming informed about, and celebrating Jewish heroines who actively--and successfully--defied the Nazis and their collaborators.  That these women went on to live long, loving, and productive lives is a tribute to their intelligence, grace, strength and resilience.
Joanne Gilbert's popular non-fiction books, "WOMEN OF VALOR: Polish Jewish Resisters to the Third Reich," and "A VICTORY FOR MIRIAM! The Little Jewish Girl Who Defied the Nazis," are based on her 1st-hand interviews with now-elderly women who as girls, were part of the resistance. In dispelling the stereotype that the Jewish people went "silently like sheep to the slaughter," the remarkable and inspiring true stories in WOMEN OF VALOR: Polish Jewish Resisters to the Third Reich," and "A VICTORY FOR MIRIAM! The Little Jewish Girl Who Defied the Nazis," will "inform your mind, lift your spirits, and warm your heart!"
Come join us in honoring the legacy of female partisans, spies, couriers, nurses, and the many others, whose lives provide powerful testimony to the love, strength, courage, and resilience of Jewish women.
